Homeschooling ABC's

Are you new to homeschooling? Or perhaps you haven't even started yet. Maybe you are just thinking of homeschooling. Are your children toddlers? Or do they attend school in a traditional building, but you'd like to bring them home?

Do you read blogs like this and talk to other homeschool families? Do you want to take time to collect your thoughts, and struggle with all the emotions, are you restless because you don't know where to begin?

If any (or all!) of the above statements sound familiar, you may want to check out Knowledge Quest's: Homeschooling ABC's course.

Terri Johnson, homeschool mother of 5 and founder of Knowledge Quest, wrote 26 lessons for you the potential or new homeschool parent, to feel confident in your endeavor.

Sent to your e-mail in a weekly format, each lesson begins with a letter of the alphabet, and guides you through many topics that homeschool parents are faced with.

I had the privilege to view a number of the lessons in this course, and will share with you what I found!

The Homeschooling ABC's is a great introduction to homeschooling. They give you links to find the legal aspects of homeschooling in your state and some template letters that you can use. There is a wonderful lesson on how to find out "HOW" your child(ren) learn. Organizing a homeschool can be a tough job, and Teri gives you plenty of ideas on how to do that too.

There are many, many extra downloadable items for your use, and they always include the links to the previous downloads at the end of each lesson. With tips on how to use library resources and how to write research papers (we've used those already, and it really helped Genius organize her paper).

I really like the great advice on how to choose curriculum for your family.

There were a few things that I personally found with the product that may or may not pertain to you and your family . One was that I found these lessons were geared toward families with more than one child (which we don't have), and that those children would be in a younger age bracket than mine (Genius is in upper middle school). I also felt that while the advice on how to choose curriculum is great, the course seemed to debase textbooks. Since Genius attended public school for 7 years before we decided to homeschool, we are extremely textbook driven (since that was what she was used to), and I took it a little personally. So if you have more than one child, they are younger than middle school, and don't care much for textbooks, then none of this should be a problem!

The really good news is, you don't have to take my word for any of this (although I'd like you too!). You can claim a 5 day mini-class by going to Knowledge Quest - with no strings attached! If you like what you see, the entire 26 week course is available, one lesson a week for six months at the cost of $10.00 per month. If you are apprehensive about homeschooling, Teri Johnson wants you to be confident! So take her up on it and check it out.
