Memoria Press - Review

Memoria Press joined up with the TOS Crew as one of the last vendors of the year, and their company was generous as to allow us to review not just one but two of their products of our choice.

One of the items I chose to review was Famous Men of Modern Times. I received both the Student and Teacher books in this set.

Presented as short biographies, Famous Men of Modern Times covers the lives and achievements of 33 men who lived within the last 500 years. And yes, explaining "modern" as a 500 year period to a 13 year old is a lesson in itself!

Some of the names may be familiar to you, famous presidents and scientists, others are a bit more obscure, but all of them are well written and concise.

This book set is great to supplement any history curriculum that covers the eras after the fall of Constantinople, for middle and high school students. A good portion of these men, or the time periods in which they lived will be covered somewhere in your student's studies. For elementary age students it could be used as its own history curriculum.

While using this book the past few weeks the only thing Amber did not care terribly much about was that it was only about men. She really has a desire to find out about famous modern women too (hint, hint Memoria Press...☺).

We also chose to review their new First Start French Book 1.

Ooh la la, c'est trés bon. We are definitely continuing on using this as well as purchasing Book 2 when it is needed!

As I took French in school for 10 years, I have the ability to teach it with the guide book alone. For people who have not spoken French before, a CD with pronunciations is included in order to teach the sounds correctly.

The student workbook exercises are great and Amber now runs around the house singing tunes like Frere Jacques. The teacher's manual is well written and easy to follow and teach from.

I definitely recommend this for a second language curriculum, and at an affordable $39.95 what more can you ask for?
